Mahalia White-McColl

Mahalia is a Tasmanian Artist and environmentalist based in Cygnet. Her work includes functional ceramics and figurative ceramic sculpture, focusing on the wildlife found near her home in Cygnet, on Melukerdee Country. She is drawn to the misty and earthy tones found in the surrounding landscape. The connection between people and nature in her work is a visual representation of our interdependence, and she is continually pursuing ways to reduce the environmental footprint of her practice.

Mahalia’s ceramics are all individually handmade in her Cygnet Studio, using solar power to reduce the environmental impact of firing. Her functional pottery, mugs, bowls, and vessels, are made with sustainability in mind, to be used and loved over and over again.

Her sculptural work is her passion, creating unique and joyful bespoke works to bring wildlife into home and garden spaces. Her work represents Tasmanian landscape and unique wildlife, as a state with such globally precious places.
