Find 7K Distillery at site 232 at Salamanca Market each Saturday. This stall is located on the building side of the market near Cargo.


About the distillery

7K Distillery began as a tiny operation inside a shipping container atop a hill on ‘nan’s block’ in Brighton. After a few short years 7K had outgrown its 40 foot space and relocated to a warehouse in Derwent Park. Located just 10 minutes from the Hobart CBD, the warehouse is home to our beautiful copper still that was created entirely by hand by Tyler. 7K was built with an ethos of environmental consciousness, waste minimisation and respect for all of Tasmania’s natural treasures - you’ll find this in every part of what we do. 

What is it like to run a whisky distillery?

We have a small, passionate and young crew at 7K distillery (our founder Tyler is about to celebrate his 30th birthday at the distillery). With that we bring lots of energy and big ideas to work with us each day like a team of mad scientists. The distillery is always filled with loads of activity, great tunes and various experiments bubbling away. 

What makes your whisky so special?

Most of our whisky is single malt, single barrel from our hand-built and aged in barrels re-coopered in Tasmania. Our distillers take their job of testing and tasting the whisky very seriously and never let a drop find its way into a bottle until it is just right.  

What whisky do you make?

Our whisky is single malt and mostly single barrel - our Bourbon releases have all been very popular but we’ve had Muscat, Sherry, Pinot and a few very special releases like our cask strength release and our PX finish. Whisky lovers follow us and keep a close eye on our monthly release emails to discover what’s available next. 

Why do you like about having a stall at Salamanca Market?

The market is a great chance for us to meet and chat to tourists and Tasmanians alike. We love sharing our passion for Tasmanian products in such an iconic Tasmanian location and the hustle and bustle of the market makes Saturday our favourite day of the week. 

What is your market best seller?

Our Raspberry Gin is actually our best seller at the market - whisky lovers will enjoy how it distracts the others in their group long enough so that they can find out all about our current single malt finish. 

Market goers love the sweet taste of Tasmanian Raspberries - be warned, it is dangerously easy to enjoy.

Best drive route to travel to your cellar door?

Just a short drive from the Hobart CBD - we’re straight up the Brooker Highway and easy to fit in on your drive to MONA or out to explore the Derwent Valley. Some people even cycle in from town to work off their big waterfront lunch.
