Old Kempton Distillery

Old Kempton Distillery is located in Dysart House, Kempton, in an 1840’s colonial inn. It is an easy 45 minute drive from Hobart and approximately 2 hours from Launceston. The grand coaching inn, built by convict embezzler turned-innkeeper, William Ellis, was one of the finest inns on the road from Hobart to Launceston where travellers and their horses could rest overnight.

At Salamanca Market they offer a wide range of Old Kempton Tasmanian whiskies, apple liqueur, barley vodka and lavender malt and gin for tastings and purchase.

If you visit their distillery at Kempton you will find their cellar door/café boasting two charming restored dining rooms and a beautiful courtyard where you can sit and enjoy some home cooked treats from the café menu. The Cask Lounge is full of comfy chesterfield chairs, a stunning cask and botanic wall and it is made for relaxing with a dram.

The cellar door offers a wide variety of tastings of Old Kempton Distillery products from Single Malt Whisky, Tasmanian liqueurs and their range of gins. Daily tours are run at 11am and 1.30pm that include a tour of the distillery and a tasting flight of four spirits.

The Cellar Door/Café is open from 10am - 4pm, 7 days a week.
