Changes to Parking

Between Thursday, December 14, 2023, and Tuesday, January 9, 2024, parking around Salamanca and the Hobart waterfront will be affected due to the Taste of Summer event during the New Year period. 

Road closures around the waterfront

Due to the road closures around the waterfront, parking in this area will be very limited.

Free parking at the Regatta Grounds

There is free parking available at the Regatta Grounds from Monday 11 to Sunday 24 December.

For more information visit the City of Hobart website. This is approximately a 10-15 minute walk from the market.

Changes to accessible parking

Between Thursday, December 14, 2023, and Tuesday, January 9, 2024, accessible parking on Saturdays will be located at:

  • Morrison Street Car Park (outside of Franklin Wharf) - 9 spaces
  • Castray Esplanade - 2 spaces
  • in the Basement of Salamanca Square car park.

Best places to park

There are lots of parking options available:

Parliament House Carpark: Parliament House car park: is located in front of Parliament House with entry from Murray Street and is a one-minute walk to Salamanca Market. It is operated by the Rotary Club of Sullivans Cove with proceeds used to fund community projects. Parking is available between 8 am and 1 pm on Saturday. While cars can remain in the carpark until 5 pm, they cannot enter after 1 pm.

Salamanca Square car park: is located next to Salamanca Market with entry from Montpelier Retreat and is a two-minute walk to Salamanca Market.

Montpelier Retreat private car park: located on Montpelier Retreat next to Salamanca Market and is a three-minute walk to Salamanca Market. Parking is available between 8.30 am and 5.00 pm on Saturday.  

Evans Street car park: This is an open-air car park that is located around 7 minutes walk from the market. The cost will vary on Saturdays, depending on how long you intend to stay.

Parking on streets: Parking is available on streets in and around the Hobart city centre and is usually limited to less than three hours at most locations. 

City centre car parks: Park in either the Argyle Street, Centrepoint or Hobart Central car parks in the Hobart city centre and walk to the market.

Dunn Place car park: provides voucher parking and is approximately a ten-minute walk to Salamanca Market. 

Caravans and campervans: caravans and campervans are not able to be parked in city centre car parks, however parking is available at the Hobart Regatta Grounds, which is approximately a 20-minute walk to Salamanca Market.  Additionally, there is a large car park at Evans Street which is approximately a seven- minute walk along the waterfront .
