Hobart Belts

Kasha from Hobart Belts has been handmaking leather belts for over 15 years in her belt-making studio behind her house in South Hobart. She mainly uses cowhide leathers and her belts are very beautifully crafted in a range of both natural and bright colours.

She also has another leather variety that sparks a lot of interest as it’s so unusual. People are fascinated by her Barramundi leather belts.

‘I often get asked how this is possible. But Barramundi is incredibly tough once it’s tanned’, says Kasha.
She grew up in the leather industry as her parents owned a leather workshop in Poland in the 70s. Kasha learnt the craft from her father and, after they moved to Tasmania, took over the family business when he became unwell.

She still uses her father’s original sewing machine. ‘It’s a very old PFAFF, which is an old German sewing machine’, says Kasha with pride.
